Dunnes Stores vs The Plastic Bag Tax

Dunnes are probably correct in taking up this fight. When the regs were first introduced, their intention was to stop the use of plastic carrier bags. Fair enough it nearly wiped us out overnight but it worked very well and I have no complaints about it. However, in the past couple of years , the Government has been playing around with the definition and essentially they have broadened it to include bags that your meat is put into and other similar bags which are necessary for hygiene purposes. They were excluded from the scope of the original levy and rightly so.

Dunnes are essentially fighting for the right to sell meat safetly. I think they’ll win.
