What is wood wool?

Which is more Eco friendly?

Firstly, wood wool production has a much lower carbon footprint than paper. There are no chemicals or complex manufacturing processes needed in wood wool production, just a wood shaver. Paper shred, on the other hand, requires many mechanical and chemical steps to produce it from wood to paper and then to shredded paper. Even though the end product is Eco friendly, the carbon footprint and costs are much higher.
Secondly, due to lower production costs, wood wool is much cheaper.
Furthermore, both shredded paper and wood wool are not suitable for recycling. According to Bord na Mona, shredded paper can be a major problem for recycling services as it can be challenging to sort. If you choose uncolored paper shred or wood wool, you can put them into your compost bin. However, some coloured shredded papers can contain strong dyes, heavy inks and other printing chemicals that make them unsuitable. You should always check whether inks used in the production are environmentally friendly.
Shredded paper can have be an effective and Eco friendly packaging option.
